2021-11-26

A freighter from Umex's partner Hi Fly has landed in Antarctica for the first time.

Captain Carlos Mirpuri and his crew completed the round trip from Cape Town to Antarctica in a wide-body aircraft. The route covers a total of 2,500 nautical miles, with each route taking more than five hours to fly. Never before has an Airbus A340 landed on this blue glacier. The main mission of this route is to transport a small number of tourists and scientists as well as some necessary supplies to the South Pole.

Hi Fly 9H-SOL is an Airbus A340-313HGW (high gross weight) aircraft with a maximum take-off weight of 275 tons. This is an aircraft that is guaranteed to complete its mission every time.Being selected to fly in this extreme environment is entirely due to its good flight performance, high reliability, comfort, and excellent safety record. Its excellent performance and four engine guarantees also make it ideal for such remote operations.

The round trip to Antarctica was three hours shorter than originally planned because Hi Fly has an established flight operations, ground operations and maintenance team that does an impeccable job that makes HI Fly a true winning team.
